The departure

Our main character's departure is plotted by his daughter on Super 8, with the help of a stunt double and a vintage steam train. (You'd never know it wasn't Pete)

Golden memories of family holidays

Motoring along sandy lanes and taking wrong turns
While bouncing on seats and eating hot cross buns with sticky fingers
Finding the biggest stones to throw in the ocean, and drawing symbols in the sand
Then a picturesque picnic in the dunes

Alfie and Poppy as the younger Bijan and Sophie, on a family holiday. Memories are recalled by Pete during the show with the help of Super 8 films projected by his daughter.

Rehearsing ideas for a slow motion street scene with white sheets

This video is a clip from our last rehearsal where Vicky, Sophie and I worked on ways to incorporate moving in backwards in slow motion whilst working with white sheets. (we devised the work with the sheets in a previous rehearsal, where the idea is we are performing some daily tasks such as putting out the washing etc.) On reflection, the parts that seem to work best for me are when our movements are synchronised perfectly and from the video we took it seems this happens best when we are able to see each other in our peripheral visions. Perhaps something to consider next time we rehearse this scene.

Very excited to be part of this new work by Nunah Theatre Company. Take a look on Youtube at previous work by Nunah Theatre Company. Great to be working with Director Vicky Heath and fellow performers Bijan and Sophie.

Presently fusing ideas together brought to rehearsals by Vicky - often a style of movement or dance happening at the same time as another style of movement, dance or gesture to describe the narrative of the piece (i.e. the feet flow one way, the face and hands do something else). Makes for interesting work and challenging rehearsals.

A little bit about the show to begin with

Hello,

I thought I'd kick things off here with the publicity blurb about the show. It will hopefully enable anyone interested to find out more about the show and help us (the company) keep in mind what we are aiming to achieve when we are toiling away in the rehearsal room.

The blurb:

The Arrival follows the journey of a man who migrates to a new land, desperately trying to communicate and make some sense of it all. Why has he left his family behind? What on earth is he hoping to find? At what cost? The story is an extraordinary blend of bold physicality, beautiful images and evocative music and celebrates nunahs’ unique style and energy. Visually stunning and astoundingly visceral, barely pausing for breath this show chronicles a man trying to connect and communicate in his strange new surroundings. The Arrival, the third production by this new and highly creative British company, is a whirl of masterful movement, vivid colour and emotive music.
